Life in a Nursing Home For FVVH Volunteers only. Many of the patients we serve reside in nursing homes. As they begin their journey with a patient, volunteers often find themselves with questions and some discomfort with this setting. Join us and receive information on the nursing home experience, as well as share in discussion about your concerns, questions, and experiences. Monday, January 9 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Using Play To Help Grieving Children For children, playing is both the way that they communicate their feelings and work through their pain. Through lecture, demonstrations, and activities, attendees will learn about play therapy and the many ways to use art, sand, and other play techniques to help grieving children process their experiences and begin to heal from the loss of their loved ones. Dr. Shantelle Whitehead, guest speaker. Saturday, February 18 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Dinner and a Movie We'll gather at 6:00 to enjoy a meal and fellowship together. Bring a dish to pass. At 6:35 we'll view "Consider the Conversation" a 60-minute DVD on the American struggle with communication and preparation at end-of-life. "The film's goal is to jump-start the conversation between husband and wife, doctor and patient, parent and child, minister and parishioner." Group discussion led by FVVH staff will follow. Monday, March 12 6 to 8 p.m.
Cultural Perceptions on Death and Grief Different cultures have diverse perspectives on the dying and grieving processes. A multi-cultural panel will present their views as we engage in discussion and share our personal experiences. Facilitated by FVVH staff. Thursday, April 19 1 to 2:30 p.m.
