2010 COMMUNITY EDUCATION
FVVH prides itself on being a source of community education. These free sessions are open to FVVH volunteers and members of the community. All sessions are held at Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice at 200 Whitfield Drive, Geneva. Each class is offered free of charge, but registration is required. Multiculturalism Concepts of cultural competence, participatory engagement, and the relevance of cultural learnedness will be covered in this interesting presentation. Led by Amaal Tokars from the Kendall County Health Department. Wednesday, July 14, 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Suicide Prevention The topic of suicide is difficult for many to address. The more opportunities we create to talk about suicide, the more comfortable we can become with the conversation. Eric Ward, MSEd, LCPC and Clinical Director of Family Counseling Service in Aurora will offer information on suicide awareness and prevention. Wednesday, September 8, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Patient Care Review This session is for FVVH volunteers only. Do you need a "tune-up"? We all need inspiration to make the patient care experience more enriching. Together we'll explore such issues as cultural and spiritual diversity, effective communication techniques, and honoring the journey of the patient and family. We'll also touch on Rules and Regulations of Hospice Care. Led by FVVH staff. Saturday, October 16, 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Personal Boundaries This session is for FVVH volunteers only. Christy Pitol, LCSW, Clinical Manager at FVVH, will share her insight on how to best serve our clients and patients while maintaining a sense of balance. Discussion will surround fulfilling our mission while using appropriate personal boundaries and avoiding compassion fatigue. Thursday, November 11, 12:30 to 2 p.m.
