Faith in Action
Voluntarios de Fox Valley
In order to serve the ever growing Spanish-speaking population in our communities, Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice created a parallel volunteer program to the one that currently exists by recruiting, training and sustaining a corps of Spanish speaking volunteers and translating training materials to Spanish.
Faith in Action-Voluntarios de Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice gives staff the opportunity to support individuals and their families in the Latino community in ways they have never been able to before because of the language barrier. This program is unique in that Spanish and English speaking volunteers are trained together. By eliminating the need for an interpreter, the hospice team becomes one that advocates for the patient and the family. This team includes a Spanish speaking volunteer, a bereavement coordinator, a volunteer nurse, a social worker and a chaplain.
This program of care continues after the death of a patient with our volunteers providing support to the patient’s love ones for at least sixteen months.
