Hike for Hospice
The morning may have been a bit chilly, but the hearts and spirits were warm of all who attended Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice’s first annual Hike for Hospice at Blackberry Farm in Aurora on Saturday morning.
Check out pictures from the morning here!
The first Hike for Hospice was a tremendous success, raising nearly $30,000 to support Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, the largest volunteer hospice in the nation providing free hospice and bereavement support to the community. The event’s tagline was “A Celebration of Life,” and those in attendance did just that. With clowns, a face painter, raffles and a Hike around Lake Gregory, there was something for everyone as the board of directors, staff, volunteers and those who have used FVVH’s services gathered together to commemorate FVVH’s mission.
“There is nothing that these people cannot do,” Maryanne Vandenburgh told the crowd of more than 125. Vandenburgh’s husband, Gene, used Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice’s services two years ago as he battled a brain tumor. Joined by Sharon Sutton, the FVVH volunteer who accompanied the Vandenburgh’s on their journey, Maryanne shared her inspirational story as well as her hope to become a volunteer herself.
“Our first Hike for Hospice was a tremendous success,” said Martha Scheidler, Acting Executive Director of FVVH. “We are incredibly thankful for our sponsors, board of directors, staff, volunteers and those who support FVVH. Our organization is proud to continue to serve the community as we have for the past 26 years.”
